The calendar of activities of the Municipality of Valtournenche this year is enriched with a new and important event, which aims to become the fixed appointment of the summer season: the Matterhorn Week.
A week of events that celebrate the icon of all the mountains in the world - the Matterhorn - and aim to rediscover summer in the mountains. The whole community of Valtournenche has been involved in creating a full program of services offered at the best price of the summer. Who will choose Valtournenche and Breuil-Cervinia for the coming week 15 from July to 21 will in fact have the opportunity to stay at special prices, to participate in outdoor sports activities think for all levels, to attend cultural debates. But that's not all: the program also includes picnics at high altitude, film screenings, concerts under the stars and a special evening dedicated to the Matterhorn with Herve Barmasse.
«We want to rediscover the mountains in the summer to all those who associate the Matterhorn only with snow and skiing - says the mayor of Valtournenche, Jean-Antoine Maquignaz -. On July 17, 1865, Jean-Antoine Carrel conquered the summit from the Valle d'Aosta side, along the Cresta del Leone, and around this date - 154 years later - the event was built. The Matterhorn Week will become an annual rendezvous, also in July, to celebrate mountaineering and the culture of mountain peoples».
