Index of contents and milestones
Orvieto
We come from Bolsena the evening before our tour to admire the spectacle of the sunset and its colors on the tuff rocks. Arriving at Orvieto we are surrounded by vines from which it is produced Orvieto Bianco. We park the motorbikes to be able to fully enjoy the winding streets and the typically medieval structure of Orvieto and visit the Palazzo del Popolo dating back to the XIII century. The unmissable Cathedral of Gothic style is of rare beauty derived from the splendid mosaics, the bas-reliefs and the rose window by Orcagna. From Orvieto we head north on the SS71 for enjoyable kilometers of road that winds between the crests of the hills bordering the Toscana from which we can admire glimpses of the Val di Chiana. We arrive at Sala castle to taste a well-deserved glass of excellent wine at the renowned family winery Antinori.
Città della Pieve
Orange Flag of the Tci, it was the birthplace of the painter Peter Vannucci, known as Perugino and we can admire some of his works inside the Cathedral. We get there after bypassing dal Nibbio pass (584 masl) which dominates the municipality of Ficulle.
Torgiano
We leave Città del Pieve and with the SR71 we head towards Castiglione del Lago. We recommend dedicating some space in the motorcycle trunk for zero-kilometre gastronomic shopping: cold cuts, including wild boar, oil and Chianina beef. Obviously we stop for lunch because hunger makes itself felt and how can you say no to these delicacies? After lunch we take via Roma, a panoramic and spacious road on the bank of the Trasimene until we find Panicale, another Orange Flag municipality of the Tci in which municipality we can admire the frescoes of Perugino preserved in the church of S. Sebastiano. We arrive in Tavernelle via the SP306 from where we deviate towards the destination of our stage: Torgiano, a place famous for being the headquarters of the Cantina Lungarotti and the museums of wine and oil.
Montefalco and Trevi
The third stage takes us after just over 36 kilometers of a pleasant route on moderate gas through a rural landscape until we reach Bevagna, Orange Flag of the Tci and a destination for design lovers given the presence of Castelbuono estate and its Carpace, the sculpture-cellar of Arnaldo Pomodoro. We get back on the saddle and along roads that wind through olive groves and vineyards we arrive at Montefalco, homeland of Sagrantino and Montefalco Red Doc, those of the cellars are famous Caprari and Antonelli. not far from Assisi. In Montefalco it is possible to carve out some time to get lost in the numerous narrow streets that run through the vineyards or woods. With the SP447 we arrive at Trevi, also Orange Flag of the Tci. Trevi dominates the Spolentina plain from a hill covered with olive trees, if we have time we can get to Trevi passing through Gualdo Cattaneo and driving on secondary roads, scenic and enjoyable for us motorcyclists.
We close the circle of ours itinerario returning to Orvieto passing by Spoleto, Acquasparta and via the SS448 we skirt the Corbara lake.
