The new Speed Triple 1200 RS has been redesigned by Triumph to offer the ultimate in performance, safety and technology.
The bike that has now become a legend and icon of motorcycling continues to evolve both in style and in performance. From Hinckley comes a Speed Triple (and they say “tripəl” not “traipol”) that is new in every detail.
Thanks to the displacement increased to 1.160cc, the new 3-cylinder in-line engine, which is 7 kg lighter, reaches an exuberant peak of power of 180 HP at 10.750 rpm and develops 125 Nm of maximum torque at 9.000 rpm. Also designed thanks to experience racing linked to the supply of engines for the Moto2 Championship, it offers a simply thrilling riding experience. It is also more responsive and responsive, spins 650 rpm higher than the 1.050 unit, with a 25% better power-to-weight ratio than the previous engine, and delivers a sporty and exciting intake and exhaust tonality.
The chassis is completely new and the curb weight is only 198kg, 10kg less than the previous generation. The handlebars it is 13mm wider, allowing for a more dominant and focused position on the front wheel. Completely redesigned also the saddle, which is comfortable (ground clearance 830 mm) although primarily focused on supporting sporty driving in the best possible way. At the front, forks are mounted USD Öhlins NIX30, adjustable in preload, and hydraulic in rebound and compression, while the rear unit is a single shock absorber Öhlins TTX36 monoshock, also in this case adjustable in preload, rebound and compression. The system includes Brembo Stylema® monobloc and radial mount calipers, with double 320mm discs, while a single Brembo double piston caliper is mounted on the rear axle.
The new 1200 RS completely revolutionizes the technology of the previous Speed Triple, with the introduction of a new 5 ”TFT color instrumentation, Triumph Shift Assist up-and-down electronic gearbox as standard, Optimized Cornering ABS, Optimized Cornering Traction Control ( deactivatable and with IMU inertial platform), 5 riding modes (including Track Mode), new full-LED headlights, fully keyless interface and My Triumph Connectivity System as standard. Added to this is the standard cruise control, backlit electrical blocks and a lithium battery.
Carefully designed, finished and painted, the new superstructures emphasize the compactness of the whole and enhance its character: this is the case, for example, of the carbon front fender, the matching engine guard, the compact and sharp tail with (optionally) seat passenger or single seat cover. Lightweight and aggressive, the 17-inch wheels are in aluminum and V-design. The Speed Triple RS will be available in Sapphire Black livery, with red and silver accents, or Matt Silver Ice, with black, silver and yellow graphics.
