Passo Stalle, not far from the The Dolomites, is undoubtedly one of our favorites, not only for the beauty of the road that runs in alternating directions, therefore without the danger of running into cars or other vehicles arriving in the opposite direction, but above all for the lake and the surrounding peaks, that regenerate the spirit and sight.

Historical and touristic notes:

A few years ago, the remains of an ancient pirogue were found in Lake Obersee at a depth of about 8 m. This is the discovery of the highest-altitude boat in Europe.

Traffic:

The Pass is forbidden to campers, buses and trucks unless authorized. Due to the narrow carriageway, there is a traffic light for the regulation of vehicular traffic and circulation is alternating one-way. From 1 'to 15' minutes of every hour you pass along the Passo Stalle-Lago di Anterselva direction, while from 30 'to 45' minutes you proceed in the opposite direction.

Itinerary:

We choose to start from Brunico because we cannot miss this characteristic town. Along the SS49 we arrive at the artisan area of Rasen below from where we deviate to the left taking the Via Valle d'Anterselva or SP44, which climbs between multiple bends among the typical South Tyrolean villages that seem the result of a fairy tale, frozen in time, up to the foot of Passo Stalle. From Passo Stalle we enter Austria, with the street named Defereggental Landesstraße to reach St. Jakob in Defereggen.
