R 1250 RS
The tradition of the travel sport tourer is renewed and carries the DNA of the BMW RS concept into the future: the new BMW R 1250 RS equipped with the Boxer engine with BMW ShifCam technology. Read our touring test on the R 1250 R here.
The new generation of the twin-cylinder Boxer engine, now equipped with BMW ShiftCam technology, debuts on the fifth model in the air / liquid cooled Boxer range, the BMW R 1250 RS, while at the same time renewing the tradition of the RS series models.
Thanks to the evolution of the new Boxer engine, equipped with a technique for valve timing and variable lift on the intake side, the new R 1250 RS benefits from higher levels of control, refinement, acceleration and performance.
The camshafts, for the intake phase, have been configured in such a way as to have an asynchronous opening of the two intake valves, producing an enhanced swirl of the incoming fresh mixture and therefore more efficient combustion. Other technical modifications of the engine concern, among other things, the actuation of the camshafts, now entrusted to a chain toothed gear (formerly roller chain), the optimization of the oil supply, dual-jet injectors as well as a new exhaust system. The new engine boasts a displacement of 1.254 cmXNUMX3, the bore-to-stroke ratio is 102,5 to 76mm and delivers 100kW (136hp) power at 7.750rpm, with peak torque of 143Nm at 6.250rpm. With a 7% increase in displacement, the new Boxer engine delivers 14% more torque and 9% more power than the previous model, making it the most powerful BMW Boxer engine ever produced in series.
New equipment and greater technological content as standard and optional.
The new BMW R 1250 RS is equipped as standard with two driving modes, Rain and Road, to adapt to the individual requirements of the riders, and Automatic Stability Control (ASC), for a high level of safety driving by improving traction as much as possible. Hill Start Control is also now fitted as standard and allows for a comfortable start when uphill or downhill. The new R 1250 RS also features the Connectivity instrument cluster with a 6,5-inch color TFT display as standard.
In combination with the multi-controller BMW Motorrad, the pilot has the possibility to access in a particularly fast and comfortable way the functions of the motorcycle and connectivity.
Completely redesigned Headlight PRO LED headlamps are also standard and LED daytime running light is available as an option.
The optional “Driving mode Pro” includes the additional driving mode “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” (configurable by the rider), the Dynamic Traction Control DTC (Dynamic Traction Control). The DTC allows even more efficient and safer acceleration, especially when the bike is folded. ABS Pro offers even more safety when braking, even on an incline. The new Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) assistant ensures greater safety when braking, even in difficult situations, by preventing an unintentional actuation of the accelerator. An intervention in the engine management reduces the engine torque during braking, allowing you to take full advantage of the braking power on the rear wheel. The motorcycle remains stable and the stopping distance is shortened.
Thanks to the adjustment electronics of the BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” suspension, available as an option, the damping is automatically adapted to the circumstances of the moment, according to the driving conditions and maneuvers and automatically compensates for the suspension under all load conditions. This allows a precise adaptation of the motorcycle to the riding conditions, achieving optimal comfort and cushioning and very stable handling on the road.
As for the other models of the R 1250 series, the eCall emergency call system is available as an optional ex works for the RS too, which, in case of need, allows help to arrive at the place of the event in the shortest time. possible.
