Historical notes

The history of Brenner Pass it is very ancient. First as a mountain path, then as a military route and now the site of a modern tunnel, the pass is the geographical union between north and south Europe. The transition from a simple commercial network to a military garrison is due to the Romans. In fact the road deviated from Via Claudia Augusta and allowed to reach the colonies beyond the Alps.

Bressanone, in the heart of the Isarco Valley, is an international center that certainly deserves a stop to visit the Duomo and Hofburg Bishop's Palace. Do not miss theNovacella abbey, Varna, just outside Bressanone: one of the most prestigious abbeys in northern Italy, with almost nine hundred years of history.

A few kilometers from the border with Austria, Sterzing is one of the most beautiful historical centers in Italy and one of the pearls of South Tyrol. A medieval city center, famous for Tower of the Twelve which divides the historic side of the center from the more recent one.

From here you can also stretch instead towards the South West, towards Giovo Pass e Timmelsjoch.
