New KTM 890 Duke "The Scalpel"

The new 890 Duke is now lighter, more powerful, more stylish.

The KTM 890 Duke is imbued with “Ready to Race” DNA, technologically advanced and designed to meet the needs of any rider.

Three years later, the time has come to give an answer to those customers who asked for more performance from the LC8c parallel twin, and the Mattighofen technicians responded with the 890 DUKE, the new “THE SCALPEL”.

Motor

Light and precise like the younger sister, the new one motorcycle it is equipped with an 889 cm³ engine that uses more sophisticated mapping logic and is now capable of delivering 115 hp and 92 Nm (an increase of 10 hp and 5 Nm of torque compared to the KTM 790 DUKE). In addition, the 20% increased rotating masses ensure better cornering stability and smoother engine action at low and medium revs. Euro 5 approved, it has a 14 liter tank and offers very low fuel consumption of 4,8 l / 100 km, with a range close to 300 km.

Performance

Equipped with a dual soul, the KTM 890 DUKE moves nimbly through the city streets at the peak of gas, and can be driven at its peak performance on the winding mountain roads. Lightweight and easy to handle, the 890 DUKE is an "average" only on paper, because otherwise it offers above average performance, effectively managed by electronics ride by wire cutting edge.

Electronics

Through the Photosensitive TFT equipped with KTM MY RIDE connectivity and practical handlebar selector, you can choose three driving mode: RAIN MODE (soft throttle response, maximum traction control, reduced power and anti-wheelie), STREET MODE (standard throttle response, normal TC, full power, anti-wheelie) and SPORT MODE (sport response, TC reduced, full power, anti-wheelie). For those who are able to exploit the full potential of the KTM 890 DUKE, the optional TRACK MODE allows you to finely vary the settings, to set record times on the track. Traction control can be increased or decreased in a nine-step scale, the anti-wheelie function can be disengaged and throttle response adjusted three levels. The launch control sets the engine at the perfect number of revolutions per minute for a lightning-fast start from a standstill, while a 6D lean angle sensor allows the ECU to analyze a lot of data and information on the behavior and position of the bike, to offer optimal feedback to the pilot.

Brakes and levers

THEbraking system front is entrusted to two 300 mm floating discs combined with a pair of radial calipers with four pistons on which pads with a different compound have been mounted that guarantee greater power, always well modulated by the ABS sensitive to the lean angle. At the rear, the 240 mm disc combined with a double piston caliper remains unchanged. Compared to the previous version, the gear lever is now shorter and thanks to lighter springs the operation of the Quickshifter + (optional) is even faster and smoother.

Chassis

The handling of the KTM 890 DUKE is the result of a perfect combination of the chromium-molybdenum steel tubular frame, the die-cast aluminum rear subframe and the twin-cylinder engine, which is used as a stressed element. Despite the increased volume and technical updates, the KTM 890 DUKE maintains the same weight as the bike that preceded it: just 169 kg (dry). The rear frame with an innovative design has been designed to be simple, minimalist, light and functional, in fact inside there are the air intakes, the filter case and the battery.

Suspensions

Compared to the previous version, the WP Apex suspensions of the KTM 890 DUKE have been updated and ensure better operation of the 43 mm upside-down fork with open cartridge and the adjustable preload monoshock.
Compared to the 790 DUKE, the seat height has been reduced by half a centimeter and is now set at 820 mm.

Tyres

The lines of the 890 DUKE are unequivocally KTM, in fact every edge, every corner and every element of the superstructures is functional and essential. New for the new model are the new covers Continental ContiRoad, which thanks to the excellent results in the tests, offer an optimal grip in the wet, a remarkable stability and a very short "warm-up" phase.
