Starting from Ceprano, the road will rise steadily until it reaches 1.300 meters above sea level. There is no shortage of curves (watch out for the gravel!) But above all it is nature that will leave you surprised. Your trip will be accompanied by the typical Mediterranean scrub, given the proximity to the sea, with its strong scents and summer flavor.
Liri Valley
The road climbs through the Liri Valley to the town of Campodimele, a small town at 647 meters. The village holds some interesting ones historical testimonies such as monastery of Sant'Onofrio built in the 90th century. The walk along the medieval walls restored in the XNUMX's is also suggestive and pleasant fame of Campodimele is due to having one of the longest-lived populations of Italy with a high average age for both women and men (84 years and 77 years respectively). And then why not stop and try some of the delicious dishes that the local cuisine, rich and genuine, offers you?
Itri
Continue towards the sea, always accompanied by an incredible nature. Those who want to venture into walks and trekking on the many paths of the park, will be lucky enough to see diurnal birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon and the buzzard, or discover the numerous caves in the area. Once in the town of Itri, typically looking medieval, perched as it is around the bulk of theimposing castle, we recommend a short stop to visit the Old Town, the Convent of St. Francis (dating back to 1324) and the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, completely restored after the heavy bombings of the last world war. In addition to Castle we can admire the interesting Church of St. Michael the Archangel dating back to the XNUMXth century. The Itri Banditry Museum.
Towards the sea
From here on begins the spectacle of the road that leads to Gaeta. Curve after curve, for about ten kilometers you will be torn between driving with that breathtaking view in your eyes or stopping to photograph it. The choice and the emotions that this road and these places will give you are up to you. And if you want to go back and change your way, you can try the road that from Circeo takes you to the Castelli Romani.
