Introduced in 2012 (a little noticeable) the Honda Crosstourer retains its fine V4 engine and DCT gearbox (which suffers from some friction) but at the same time remained slightly bulky and heavy. After our test, in our opinion, the restyling of the model should be a priority for Honda for next season.
ON BOARD
While stationary, it turns out to be a real transatlantic when compared with the direct competitors of the segment. However, it has a modern and original design even if the buttons and instrumentation are starting to be a bit "old school". The aerodynamic protection is however noteworthy as is the seating comfort: the windshield is easily adjustable and the load capacity is truly remarkable. The saddle height and its width complicate things a bit for the shorter ones but only in maneuvering.
HOW IS IT GOING
The DCT automatic transmission, which makes purists turn up their noses, mates perfectly with the V4, pushing well on the motorway, without vibrations and without emitting heat in queues or at traffic lights. In changes of direction and in ordinary gear, the gearbox behaves very well and almost does not make you regret the mechanical gearbox.
Uphill responds immediately, especially in the "sport" mapping, with precise and timely changes. In case there are always the handlebar paddles with which to intervene. We can however admit (and we are a little sorry) that since our altitude test we have almost never had this need, except in the hairpin bends also to "knock down" the Japanese ocean liner.
In the tight mix it was not agile enough, when compared to competitors such as BMW or KTM of the same displacement and segment, but it always remained fluid and balanced, also thanks to the ABS.
PROS AND CONS
The V4 engine and the DCT gearbox certainly make the difference on such a “beast”, for which a little malice in sporty driving is almost indispensable and at least 175cm in height. The excellent comfort on board, on the other hand, clashes with an obsolete instrumentation and push-button panel.
