Mount Zoncolan, nicknamed “the Kaiser” is very well known among cyclists: an extremely demanding climb to be tackled by bike.
Characteristics of the ascent of Ovaro are the difficult slopes and the few hairpin bends, moreover narrow and steep, interspersed with long straights with slopes often greater than 15%.
Content index
Also known as “the Kaiser”, the mountain with inclines which are close to 20%, is a real challenge for champions for lovers of cycling and other uphill sports. Also in motorcycle it is always very suggestive, watch out for the brakes on the descent!
La strada
Our advice is to take the "hardest" side first, starting from Ovaro, along the SP123 towards Sutrio: this stretch also overcomes the Mortirolo Pass and the Colle delle Finestre. Arriving near the summit, you can enjoy a panorama that embraces almost all of Carnia: the peaks of the Pesarine Dolomites, and to the north much of the Chain main carnic.
Useful Tips
We suggest a stop atMalga Pozof farmhouse, immersed in nature and among the local flavors of locally made products.
The side towards Sutrio is less demanding for the slopes but no less suggestive and full of curves and back, a real pleasure for our bikes!
