Second stage of the Dakar rally 2021, from Bisha to Wadi Ad Dawasir. After the stony slopes, the almost 800 km of sand and dunes began.
This time, the sandy plateaus hosted the first part of the special, where the pilots demonstrated their skills in the dunes. The final stretch, with the dunes worked by the wind and the sometimes very treacherous sand, once again put the technique of motorcyclists to the test. It is therefore not surprising that masters like Joan Barreda proved to be the fastest in this section.
On the second day of racing, the riders sometimes hold back a little, which means that the positions often don't change much: Maurizio gerini settles in 34th place e Franco Picco at 61st. However, such an approach is not part of Joan Barreda's DNA who, on the contrary, has started to push hard on the gas. After starting in 20th position, the Spaniard decisively overtook the group that preceded him, while those who hesitated in the dunes paid a heavy price: Toby Price e Kevin Benavidez they lost half an hour, Mathias walkner 2 hours and 30 minutes behind ours Lorenzo Piolini!
Oscar Polli's comment
A second stage characterized by the first cords of soft and soft African dunes, difficult, high, low, in short, Erg of real dunes immediately in the first km difficult to "jump" and then move on to the various types of terrain faster. The drivers also had to be precise in marking and dividing the road book when refueling and putting it back on the instrument in just 20/30 minutes. A stage that prepares for the next one, with a very demanding ring route. It promises to be one Dakar Rally with chilli.
The Milanese driver, despite some problems with the camelback and the roadbook, said on the phone “As soon as I saw the dunes I got gassed and I immediately forgot the sufferings of yesterday due to the hard bottom and the rocks of the various river beds, today instead wide open gas, adrenaline and lots of fun. There motorcycle it's really good, in the first 200 km I did some good overtaking against riders who were less confident in the dunes, compared to me who trained mainly on the North African dunes ''.
