By motorbike among the Badlands of the Langhe

From the particular and suggestive Calanchi di Clavesana to the small medieval village of Mombaldone. Discovering the hidden places of the Langhe and Tanaro.

CALANCHI LANGHE PIEDMONT CLAVESANA

By motorbike between the Calanchi di Clavesana to the small medieval village of Mombaldone, hidden treasures of the Langhe and Tanaro.

1Gullies of Clavesana (CN)

In the stretch where the Tanaro river separates the Langhe (right bank of the Tanaro) from the Cuneo plain to Bra and then from the Roero hills (on the left bank) from Monticello d'Alba onwards, it flows with wide curves called meanders and creates suggestive erosion gullies. THE badlands they are a geomorphological phenomenon of soil erosion that is produced by the effect of water washout on clayey rocks. It is impossible not to suffer the fascination that the gullies arouse on the visitor: the attraction is enhanced by the presence of cultivated fields and vineyards that form the "background" to such impressive natural views. These gullies are locally known as "Rocche dei Perticali" and are included in the ISPRA list of geosites of national importance as Gullies of Clavesana.

2Mombaldone (AT)

CALANCHI LANGHE PIEDMONT CLAVESANA

Immersed in the gullies, like an oasis in a tufa desert softened by brooms, Mombaldone it is a small jewel of the intact Middle Ages, the only village in the Langa Astigiana that is still surrounded by the original walls and that has not changed the housing structure since its foundation. The medieval core is still well preserved with the houses located along the central access road, built entirely in stone; in some important details are identified such as portals bearing the coat of arms of the noble families, in particular of the Del Carretto family which still resides in the village today. We suggest the suggestive itinerario which leads from Clavesana to Mombaldone, for a pleasant discovery of the Langhe and its flavors. In particular, in Roddino (CN) you can try theGemma's tavern, rustic and simple like the excellent flavor of its dishes and the warmth of a family welcome.
