A wonderful road, full of curves, to discover the villages, the cuisine and the Piacenza streets, between Penice and Bobbio by motorbike.
Bobbio, in Val Trebbia, is located at the foot of Mount Penice. It was one of the main centers of religious culture in Italy and a cosmopolitan center of art, culture and science. A destination not to be missed for your motorcycle tours or as a stop in the planned itinerary.
The small village retains the medieval flavor of its village, made up of narrow streets, stone houses and elegant buildings, grown around the monastero, which, together with the evocative natural landscapes of the valley, make it one of the main holiday resorts in the Piacenza area. Bobbio also boasts the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club.
Every season is the right one to appreciate this medieval village especially from the landscape point of view, characterized by the scenographic background of the Trebbia Valley. Particularly in summer, however, it is possible to see Bobbio also in the unusual guise of a seaside resort and teeming with swimmers attracted by the fresh and refreshing waters of the river and by the opportunity to enjoy the sun.
You cannot leave Bobbio in the summer without first having traveled the Gobbo Bridge and having made the rub and a stop in the local bars in the center, to enjoy the walk and the coolness, which here always allows you to recover from the heat.
Then they deserve a visit on Abbey Museum, housed in the rooms of the monastery where the Scriptorium of Bobbio with its library was once located. The City Museum, on the other hand, offers the opportunity, through multimedia audiovisual stations, to dive into the partly lost past of monastic life and amanuensis art. There Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Abbey of San Colombano, which in its crypt contains the saint's sarcophagus and the splendid floor mosaic, are, together with the Malaspina Castle that dominates the upper part of the city, two other essential stops.
How to get? You are spoiled for choice, as Bobbio is at the center of 4 main roads, such as the Val Tidone from Castel San Giovanni, the Trebbia Valley from Piacenza towards the Liguria, and obviously the SP461 that leads from Varzi to Pass of the Penice, one of the most popular roads for motorcyclists in general. For its curves and its slopes it is always necessary to pay attention, especially on holidays when the traffic is more intense together with the traffic police checks.
Along the route of the Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli Piacentini, you can taste the macaroni alla bobbiese, still prepared today with a knitting needle and cooked with stew sauce. Without forgetting the typical ones pretzels for sale in the bakeries of the village. In the local restaurants, autumn reigns supreme stewed snail, prepared according to the laborious typical recipe of the place.
