BMW Motorrad announces the Start of Season 2019 with an Open Weekend to test the new boxer engine with BMW ShiftCam technology, the latest exciting chapter in the history of BMW Motorrad's most iconic powertrain.
On February 16th and 17th the dealerships BMW Motorrad will offer all enthusiasts the opportunity to test the formidable characteristics of the new generation of the boxer engine, which reaches a new level of power and torque, but not only. Smooth running and smooth running, especially at low revs, have also been significantly optimized. The new engine also achieves improved emission and consumption values and convinces with its particularly engaging sound. To achieve this, BMW ShiftCam technology, a technique for variable valve timing and valve lift on the intake side, was used for the first time in BMW Motorrad engines.
The camshafts, for the intake phase, have also been configured in such a way as to have an asynchronous opening of the two intake valves, producing an enhanced swirl of the fresh incoming mixture and therefore more efficient combustion. Other technical modifications of the engine concern, among other things, the actuation of the camshafts, now entrusted to a chain geared teeth, optimized oil supply, dual-jet injectors as well as a new exhaust system.
