The production model derived from the BMW Motorrad Concept R18 can be pre-ordered in Italy even before the official launch.
After having lived its world premiere at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, and having been admired at EICMA, the BMW Motorrad Concept R18 now marks a new chapter in the path towards the motorcycle which will mark the return of BMW Motorrad to the cruiser segment.
It is in fact possible to pre-order on a dedicated platform www.r18.bmw-motorrad.it the definitive version of the BMW R18 which will only be unveiled in 2020.
The BMW boxer tradition brings out a new splendor
The heart of the BMW Motorrad Concept R18 is the large 1800 CC twin-cylinder boxer engine with a revamped design. Its appearance is consciously reminiscent of the twin-cylinder engines that BMW Motorrad built until the late 60s, but with a considerably larger displacement and a modern air / oil cooling system. The boxer prototype has been designed down to the smallest detail: the engine block and transmission are made of aluminum with glass microspheres, which act as an ideal stage on which to present the hand-polished aluminum components, as well as the belt guard and valve covers. In addition, the double Solex carburetor (similar to those of the BMW 2002) recalls the historic manufactures of the brand and adds the final touch to the visual authenticity of the bike.
Another visual highlight is the exposed chrome driveshaft that connects the rear wheel. There are no additional covers anywhere on the motorcycle, which is to keep all components clearly visible. Likewise, the concept bike's electronics are reduced to nothing more than ignition and lights, highlighting the simplicity of its line.
