Passo della Calla: itinerary among the Casentinesi forests

The Calla pass is the highest pass in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, nestled in the middle of the Casentinesi Forests park.

In the heart of the Romagna Apennines, the itinerary extends between green expanses, mountains and wide valleys: a real pleasure to travel by motorbike or bicycle.

The wonders of the Apennines

The Tuscan-Romagna Apennines is a stretch of the northern Apennines and affects: Romagna, Toscana and republic of San Marino and offers countless choices for itineraries motorcycle. There are also many villages to discover in motorcycle or by bike along the numerous itineraries in the area. Last but not least, the local cuisine is a real delicacy for the palate, with many raw materials such as truffles, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables and cheeses.

Itinerary

Premilcuore is the only inhabited center in the upper Rabbi valley, a town characterized by a fortified medieval core, dominated by the castle of the Guidi counts. Starting from here, we walk along via Giumella towards Fiumicello in the heart of the Romagna Apennines. An infinite expanse of green awaits us, made up of mountains and lush valleys of forests that inebriate our desire to drive.

The itinerary takes us to cross the village of Corniolo. Before arriving there is the botanical garden of Valbonella, two hectares of open air museum at 700 meters above sea level with over 500 representative species of the Apennine flora. Towards the mountain, however, it is possible to reach the ruins of the ancient castle of Corniolo, reachable by the path that starts at a bend.

We then continue towards the lake, and then immerse ourselves again via the SS310 in the Casentinesi forests towards the highest village in the Bidente valley: Campigna, a renowned town in the center of vast pine forests and magnificent mixed forests.

From Campigna begins the climb towards the Calla pass, with a road surrounded by the woods of the park. From the summit you can admire the view of the Falterona and Falco mountains.

We then descend from the Tuscan shore towards Ponte Biforco, then passing through Santo Stefano to finally reach Pratovecchio.
